Sasse sees uptick in hack attempts after criticism of WikiLeaks

After recently criticizing WikiLeaks, Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., has seen an uptick in hacking attempts on “basically every device, every platform, personal and govt,” he said in a series of tweets Saturday that he'd

“Heads-up...I've been critical of Assange & WikLeaks this week. So...big surprise:
Am having multiple 'password reset' attempts right now,” Sasse tweeted from his personal account, joking that 'if you see crazy-tweets from me tonight, don't assume #HeavyBooze.'”

Sasse had released a statement last Thursday calling WikiLeaks Editor Julian Assange “an enemy of the American people and an ally to Vladimir Putin” after he leaked more than 8,000 documents revealing CIA hacking operations and saying the controversial leaker “should spend the rest of his life wearing an orange jumpsuit."

Assange, Sasse said, “has dedicated his life's work to endangering innocent lives, abetting despots, and stoking a crisis of confidence in the West.”

In a Thursday letter Sasse also pressed Attorney General Jeff Sessions to say whether “the Department of Justice believe[s] that Julian Assange has broken the law” and if “the Justice Department [is] aggressively pursuing his detention and prosecution.” His query came after White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer declined to answer whether the President believed Assange should be imprisoned for acquiring and releasing “sensitive and classified information” and referred the question to the Justice Department.
