The website of an international nuclear relations group has been breached, allowing perpetrators to spill sensitive information contained in a server.
The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which reports to the U.N. about nuclear cooperation among nations, confirmed the breach, according to a Tuesday Reuters article. On Sunday, a hacker collective calling itself “Parastoo” published the stolen data on Pastebin, which included email addresses of more than 100 individuals who work with the watchdog group.
The dispatch asked the owners of the email addresses to sign a petition for IAEA to launch an investigation into Israel's Dimona nuclear reactor.
“Israel owns a practical nuclear arsenal tied to a growing military body and it is not a member of internationally respected nuclear, biochemical and chemical agreements,” said the message from Parastoo. The message also threatened to release more information about the individuals.
It is unclear who is behind the attack, but Parastoo is common Iranian girl's name. Iran has been under fire from Israel and the United States over its alleged pursuit of a nuclear weapon.
An IAEA spokeswoman told Reuters Tuesday that the information was stolen from a server the agency had shut down “some time ago."
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a group claiming to be Anonymous said it hacked the site for Israeli-based news agency Debkafile. A Pastebin message published subscriber emails and passwords online, allegedly including those of retired Mossad, or Israeli intelligence, agents.
Anonymous recently launched an operation against Israel following the country's attacks on Gaza.
