Box said at its annual BoxWorks conference that its solution has received major updates including AI-driven malware protection and integrations with Microsoft and Slack, amid what CEO Aaron Levie described as a year of major changes as demand and expectations for cloud-based content management and collaboration increased, according to ZDNet.
"Because of COVID-19, everyone's moving to digital workflows, and we're now entering a multi-billion dollar category," Levie said. "Fundamental patterns of work are evolving because of this hybrid nature of working in different locations. It's affecting our entire product roadmap."
As a result, ransomware gangs have increasingly targeted the cloud, which prompted Box to enhance its Box Shield security control and threat detection system with new capabilities, including malware deep scans to scan files in near real-time during uploading. This new feature uses deep learning technology and external threat intelligence to detect malware within files and causes minimal disruption to workflows. In addition, Box Shield is receiving machine learning-driven alerts and greater detail in alerts to better inform administrators.
Box for Microsoft Office is also enabling real-time co-authoring for users on the Office desktop, and now allows users to make Box the content layer in Slack by using the Slack interface to directly upload files to Box.
