Man arrested for hacking to steal celebrity sex tapes, scripts

A Bahamian man was arrested in New York on Dec. 21 for allegedly hacking into celebrities' personal emails to steal and sell private sex tapes and more.

Authorities said 23-year-old Alonzo Knowles attempted to sell stolen scripts of upcoming movies and television shows, personal identification information, and private sexually explicit videos of celebrities and other entertainment, sports and media professionals to an under cover officer, according to a Dec. 22 Department of Justice (DOJ) release.

Knowles reportedly used a phishing scam to gain access to the victims' personal email accounts and was allegedly able to steal the information of at least 130 individuals.

Knowles was arrested when he attempted to sell approximately 15 movie and television scripts to an undercover agent for $80,000. He is being charged with one count of felony criminal copyright and one count of identity theft, which both carry a maximum of five years in prison if convicted.
