Agentless cloud security startup Laminar exits stealth

Laminar, a cloud security startup that is working on an agentless security solution for use in the public cloud, announced its exit from stealth after raising $5 million in a seed round and $32 million in a funding round led by Insight Partners, TechCrunch reports.

The company claims its solution will help address the rise in security breaches among enterprises amid their migration to the public cloud, as it will provide high-speed data leakage monitoring and resolution capabilities.

Co-founder and CEO Amit Shaked said Laminar’s service works by capturing an image of the managed and unmanaged data in an enterprise’s system and then monitoring the system’s network behavior with the image as a baseline. Data movement or changes that can be considered “unsanctioned” based on this are flagged and addressed.

Laminar’s service differs from many existing cloud security offerings, which tend to slow down traffic by using proxies or end-point agents, thanks to asynchronous and agentless system which places reduced strain on data flow and network traffic, according to the company
