Microsoft reveals upgrades to cloud software in Build conference

At this year’s Build developer conference, Microsoft took the opportunity to reveal several small but significant changes in store for its Power BI and Cosmos DB offerings, according to ZDNet.

According to the company, Power BI is set to receive the ability to handle streaming data sources from platforms such as Azure IoT Hub and Azure Event Hubs, which allows for more accessible streaming of data and real-time analytics, and a new feature called automatic aggregations, which uses a constantly-improving algorithm to handle basic aggregation functions automatically. Microsoft plans to release previews of both new functions in July exclusive to users of Power BI Premium.

Meanwhile, Cosmos DB is moving its serverless option into general availability across all of its APIs, allowing all customers to forego provisioning explicitly-sized clusters in order to use the database. Cosmos DB is also set to receive new additions including an integrated cache, an Always Encrypted feature and role-based access controls, as well as an expansion of its free tier.
