US political party domains targeted by Chinese hackers as midterms near

More than 100 U.S. state-level political party domains were identified by the National Security Agency to have been scanned by Chinese state-sponsored threat actors ahead of the midterm polls next month, and certain Democrat and Republican state party headquarters have been informed by the FBI regarding potential compromise, reports The Washington Post. No compromise has been reported at Democratic parties across several states, according to a Democratic National Committee official, who added that the DNC and state parties have been working alongside the FBI. Republican Party headquarters were also confirmed to be safe from any breaches by Republican National Committee spokesperson Emma Vaughn. However, the FBI did not comment on any operations involving notifying Democrat and Republican parties regarding Chinese threats. "The FBI is being considerably more proactive. It's part of a larger move that the FBI isn't waiting for the attack to occur. They're increasingly trying to prevent," an official said.
