IEEE has named Dr. Greg Shannon as chair of the IEEE Cybersecurity Initiative.
A senior member of IEEE and chief scientist for the CERT Division at the SEI, Shannon has experience working with government, industry and academia to find solutions to combat cyber threats. As chair of the Cybersecurity Initiative, he will help develop and spearhead a technical agenda to meet cybersecurity challenges with a range of creative tools and solutions.
The initiative recently cut the tape on its Center for Secure Design, which is aimed at identifying software design flaws and has released a report drawn from data collected from the real world and analysis from technology experts.
Shannon has worked at Lucent Technologies, Lumeta, Ascend Communications, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Indiana University, as well as a few startups. He holds an MS and a PhD from Purdue University.
