Infection attempts, exploits rise in first quarter

The number of attempts to compromise users' computers globally rose 26.8 percent in the first quarter of 2010, according to Kaspersky Lab's Q1 Malware Report, released this week. A total of 327 million attempts were made to infect machines worldwide. The report also found that the United States has replaced China as the country hosting the most malware servers (27.6 percent out of 119 million servers). The amount of exploits targeting flaws in browsers and other client-side software rose 21.3 percent, the report concluded. Nearly half of the exploits targeted ubiquitous Adobe software. — DK
