US, South Korea agree to cooperate against North Korean cyber threats

The Register reports that U.S. President Joe Biden and newly elected South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol have promised to strengthen both countries' partnership in combating state-sponsored cyberattacks and other cybersecurity threats from North Korea as part of a bolstered technological cooperation. U.S. and South Korean homeland security and law enforcement agencies will be part of the collaboration, which was announced a week after the FBI warned about North Korean threat actors impersonating foreign IT workers and a month after the U.S. offered up to $5 million for any information that would help crack down North Korean state-backed cyber efforts. "As global leaders in technology and innovation, the United States and the ROK (South Korea) are committed to fostering strong and resilient supply chains, deepening our cooperation across space and new digital frontiers, and safeguarding a trusted, values-driven digital and technological ecosystem, in line with our shared democratic values," said the White House in a statement regarding the meeting.
