Oregon State Hospital's maximum security ward is notifying patients of a data breach after a psychiatrist accidentally sent a photograph of patient records to people outside of the hospital.
On June 9, the psychiatrist used a cell phone to photograph a patient census sheet containing patient names, identification numbers, treatment information, legal status, precaution and privilege levels, and a photo of each patient, to six people, according to the Statesman Journal.
The recipients of the picture were promptly asked to delete the photo to which they reportedly complied and the information does not appear to have been misused, hospital officials told patients in a letter obtained by the Journal.
The employee who accidentally sent the photo has been retrained on information privacy, an official told the publication.
The ward houses 25 patients although it is unclear how many had their information compromised.
UPDATE: The information of 19 patients was compromised, a hospital communications officer told SCMagazine.com via emailed comments.
