Apple set to deploy software cybersecurity enhancements

New cybersecurity features are set to be released by Apple in a bid to strengthen data protection amid increasing threats, with Advanced Data Protection expected to be released as part of an iCloud update by the end of the year, with global rollout poised to begin in 2023, SiliconAngle reports. Advanced Data Protection will be providing end-to-end encryption for nine more data types, including Notes and Photos app files, in addition to the 14 other data types already supported by iCloud's end-to-end encryption. Apple has also touted the new iMessage Contact Key Verification that offers a Contact Verification Code for authenticating an iMessage contact's identity, as well as enables the interception of state-backed cyberattacks and other advanced threats. Meanwhile, Security Keys for Apple ID will allow the use of a hardware security key for accessing Apple ID accounts. Both iMessage Contact Key Verification and Security Keys for Apple ID are poised to be deployed next year.
