U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Katherine Archuleta resigned from her post on Friday, less than a day after the agency released details about the agency's second data breach.
Archuleta personally told President Barack Obama of her decision at the White House on Friday morning and said she felt new leadership would allow OPM to “move beyond the current challenges,” according to The New York Times.
Legislators continuously called for the former director's resignation, but she stood by her leadership skills and vowed to remain in her current role. Obama reaffirmed his support, as well.
OPM's data breaches impacted more than 25 million people and spanned beyond current and former federal employees. The first breach affected 4.2 million federal employees, and the second breach compromised 21.5 million individuals' Social Security Numbers, as well as other sensitive information, including fingerprints.
