Another 170K L.A. county health clients impacted in Sutherland breach

The number of Los Angeles County Department of Health Services clients impacted in the February theft of eight computers from the offices of Sutherland Healthcare Solutions (SHS), a billing and collections services provider for Los Angeles County, has skyrocketed to 338,700.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported that county officials had identified an additional 170,200 clients that were impacted in the breach. SHS released footage of the suspect captured by surveillance cameras and is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the return of the equipment, or an arrest and a conviction.

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services notified 168,500 clients in early March that their data was compromised. The SHS breach also impacted 55,900 clients of the San Francisco Department of Public Health, who were notified a few weeks later.
