Benjamin F. Edwards alerts customers to May breach

In a letter to customers on June 27, brokerage house Benjamin F. Edwards & Co. disclosed that it had been the target of a data breach in late May, according to a Forbes blog post.

On May 27, the company discovered that its computer systems had been compromised by an unauthorized third party three days earlier on May 24.  At that point the brokerage called in an outside team to conduct a forensic investigation of the breach, which indeed resulted in customer data being pilfered from the systems.

The company, which did not reveal the number of customers affected, said it did not yet have evidence that the customer information had been fraudulently used.

The letter informed customers that Benjamin F. Edwards would provide free credit monitoring as well as identity and fraud protection for a year.
