Popular link-shortening service Bitly is the latest online entity to suffer a data breach.
In a blog post to its users written by CEO Mark Josephson, the service announced that it experienced a data breach that has compromised account credentials.
User email addresses, encrypted passwords, API keys and OAuth tokens are among the information that may have been swiped. In order to cover all of its bases, the service disconnected all of its users' Facebook and Twitter accounts tied to Bitly.
The post, which has been updated twice to keep users abreast of any developments regarding the incident, advises users to change their passwords, API keys, OAuth tokens, as well as reconnect their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
While there's “no indication” that accounts have been accessed without permission, no information regarding how the breach took place was shared.
