Personal data compromised in Cincinnati state college breach

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Cincinnati State Technical Community College had network-stored personal data potentially exposed following a cyberattack between Oct. 30 and Nov. 2. Attackers who infiltrated Cincinnati State's network were able to remove certain files with personal details, including full names, birthdates, addresses, Social Security numbers, state identification numbers, driver's licenses, financial account data, and health insurance information, according to Cincinnati State. However, Cincinnati State did not specify whether the incident had impacted student data. "Impacted individuals are encouraged to take steps to protect themselves against identity fraud, including placing a fraud alert/security freeze on their credit files, obtaining free credit reports, and remaining vigilant in reviewing financial account statements and credit reports for fraudulent or irregular activity on a regular basis," Cincinnati State said in a data breach notice sent to people who have been affected by the breach. More security measures are also in the process of being adopted by the college with the assistance of its information technology department.
