Breach, Data Security

Singaporean karaoke bar members’ info compromised

A Singapore-based karaoke chain, K Box, had members' personal information compromised earlier this week when the hacker group “The Knowns” posted the data online.

Up to 317,000 members' membership numbers and points earned, contact numbers, email addresses, identity card numbers, dates of birth and marital status were compromised, according to The Straits Times. K Box said in a public letter that it removed the stolen data and links from three websites and is coordinating with the country's police force and Personal Data Protection Commission to find and prosecute the responsible attackers.

The Knowns sent an email to multiple media outlets saying they released the member data to express discontent over a toll increase at the country's Woodlands Checkpoint.

K Box's website is currently being “upgraded,” following the breach.
