Cyberattack disrupts Arkansas city

Officials at the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, disclosed that the city had taken the precautionary measure to disconnect most of its online municipal services, including email, online payments, network applications, and inspection scheduling, following a suspected cybersecurity incident, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. "Police, Fire, and 911 emergency services are not affected by this issue. The Citys Information Technology department has engaged all available resources and is working on the issue. Online services are anticipated to remain unavailable for several days, at minimum," said the city in a statement. Three cybersecurity firms have already been sought by the city to investigate the incident, according to Fayetteville IT Director Keith Macedo. The attack against Fayetteville comes after the debilitating ransomware attack against the city of Dallas, which has just recovered from the intrusion. Other cities recently impacted by ransomware attacks include Augusta, Georgia and Oakland.
