After only a week with their school district-issued iPads, hundreds of students found a way to bypass security measures placed on the devices.
Nearly 300 high school students at Theodore Roosevelt High School managed to “tinker with the security lock on the tablets,” as they had access to the devices at home, the Los Angeles Times reported last Wednesday. Students simply deleted their personal profile on the device, then proceeded to use their social media accounts, download content and surf the web without restriction.
Due to the incident, the L.A. Unified School District suspended home use of the devices for the time being and is reportedly considering delaying the rollout of the iPads. The devices were distributed to students as part of a $1 billion school district initiative.
