Capita found to have long-exposed server

Major U.K. outsourcing company Capita was discovered to have an Amazon-hosted storage bucket that was left unprotected since 2016, exposing 655GB of data online, according to TechCrunch. Nearly 3,000 files have been exposed by the non-password-protected AWS bucket, including server images, software files, text files, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations, for the past seven years, noted the security researcher, who added that included in the leaked documents was a text file with one of its systems' login details, as well as noted that some of the files have been uploaded this year. Capita has secured the exposed AWS bucket after being notified regarding the breach, with company spokesperson Elizabeth Lee saying that user guides and release notes were in the unsecured bucket. Such a breach comes weeks after Capita confirmed to have its customer data compromised in a Black Basta ransomware attack but the researchers dismissed the association between the two incidents.
