On the heels of several American social networking site breaches including LinkedIn, Tumblr and Myspace, a hacker has obtained a database containing roughly 171 million user accounts associated with the Russian-based, Facebook-inspired, social networking site VK.com.
The hacker Peace, who is allegedly also responsible for the aforementioned breaches, is selling a portion of the dataset, 100 million accounts, for 1 Bitcoin or roughly $570, according to Vice's Motherboard.
Full names, email addresses, plain text passwords and in many cases locations and phone numbers were all included in the stolen database and the breach appears to have been carried out between 2011 and 2013, according to the publication.
A VK.com spokesperson denied claims of the breach to Motherboard and said that all users' data in the database was old login information that was collected by fraudsters and had since been changed.
