Ohio student hacks school computer, shares data of 113 students

An Ohio high school student in the Southwest Licking school district gained access to a district shared server and compromised the personal information of 113 students.

School officials say they are only aware of one student's information being shared with a third party but are still taking precautions, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Student names, parents, addresses, and some social security numbers were compromised. The breach was discovered in April when another student reported someone having unauthorized access to information but officials said it took more than a month to notify all the families involved because they didn't know the extent of the breach and had to comply with local laws.

The school is offering free fraud protection services to the families that were impacted. The case is still under investigation.
