Visa and FireEye, Inc. have joined forces to develop tools and services designed to help retailers and card issuers safeguard payment data against cyber attacks.

The Visa and FireEye Community Threat Intelligence initiative will amass threat intelligence from the two companies, arming those stakeholders with the information they need to detect attacks launched against payment and IT systems as well as respond quickly to them. The two companies will at first provide tools that allow the monitoring of cyber intelligence and threats.

Mandiant, FireEye's cyber forensics branch, will aid in the enhancement and customization of those tools for merchants and card issuers, regardless of size. FireEye will run the initiative's web-based service aimed at disseminating information and knowledge about attacks to their target audiences.

The industry currently relies mostly on e-mail or static documents to share threat intelligence.
