More than 10,000 Utah Food Bank donors notified of breach

Utah Food Bank is notifying more than 10,000 individuals that their personal information – including payment card data – may have been exposed during a possible data security incident involving the donation webpage.

How many victims? 10,385.

What type of personal information? Names, addresses, email addresses, credit or debit card numbers, security codes and expiration dates.

What happened? The personal information – including payment card data – may have been exposed during a possible data security incident involving the Utah Food Bank donation webpage.

What was the response? An investigation aided by independent IT forensics experts is ongoing. The security incident has been contained. Utah Food Bank has implemented several security measures and is working on adding more to enhance its security system. All potentially affected individuals are being notified, and offered a free year of credit monitoring and identity restoration services.

Details: It appears that an unauthorized individual may have gained access to donation information submitted through the website between Oct. 8, 2013, and July 16, 2015.  

Quote: “We take this incident and the protection of our donors' information very seriously, and apologize for any inconvenience this incident may have on our donors,” a release emailed to SCMagazine.com said.
