Mueller scrutinizes Stone’s relationship with WikiLeaks, Trump campaign

Special counsel Robert Mueller apparently - and not unexpectedly - is probing the extent of former Trump campaign operative and ally Roger Stone’s interactions with WikiLeaks and founder Julian Assange during the 2016 presidential election and whether he shared information with the campaign.

Throughout the campaign, Stone’s public statements seemed to imply he knew in advance of WikiLeaks publishing a raft of emails pilfered from o the DNC and other Democratic associates that damaging information on Hillary Clinton would be released and he claimed to have been in touch with Guccifer 2.0, an alleged hacker that the U.S. intelligence community has said is actually a front for Russian intelligence operatives who engaged in hacking and influence campaigns to sway the results of the election in utilizing Trump’s favor.

While Stone has long claimed that his contact with WikiLeaks was through New York radio host Randy Credico, the Mueller team is allegedly investigating if his contact went beyond that and whether he passed information to the Trump campaign, according to a report by CNN, which noted that investigators are questioning his associates with particular interest in whether right-wing conspiracy theorist Jerome Corsi served as an intermediary between Stone and Assange. The report said Mueller’s team also allegedly has recordings of Stone boasting about his relationship with Trump and his efforts to help the campaign by passing along information from WikiLeaks.
