For our sixth-annual data breach survey, we broadened our audience to poll security pros around the world. Illena Armstrong reports.
Having run the “Guarding Against a Data Breach” survey since 2006, we at SC Magazine wanted to get a glimpse this time of what organizations' executives are doing in the United States, as well as beyond its borders, to strengthen their armaments against online attackers. Next month, we'll be publishing a full analysis of our survey, “2012-2013 Global Guarding Against a Data Breach,” sponsored by Vormetric, which will include comparisons of last year's U.S. results to this year's, alongside additional statistics examining how readers in the U.S., U.K. and Australia believe they generally are fairing with data breaches and how their budgets, hiring practices, security solutions and more stack up. Experts will tell us what they think the results might mean for the future and which organizations are doing well, and which not so well, to protect their most critical data from being exposed, lost or stolen. For now, we provide you with a teaser of just some of the initial findings from our research so far. Be sure to read the full results in March.

Email invitations to take a web survey were sent to approximately 62,000 security professionals who subscribe to SC Magazine across the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. A total of 531 respondents completed the survey. All surveys were completed between Nov. 15, 2012 and Jan. 6, 2013. The resultant data was not weighted, and the margin of error is +/–4.2% at the 95% confidence level.
