Former Fla. deputy claims FBI raided home after friends hacked county servers

A former Florida deputy claims the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided his home after his hacker friends leaked thousands of confidential county government records then later disclosed that they still had access to county servers.

Last month, former Palm Beach Sheriff's Office deputy turned technology consultant Mark Dougan claimed his Russian hacker friend “BadWolf” was responsible for a breach that exposed the home addresses of county officials, federal judges, and even FBI agents, according to the Broward Palm Beach New Times.

Dougan told the New Times that the hacker acted on his own accord in retaliation for Dugan's allegations of corruption within the sheriff's office.

Earlier this month, DataBreaches.net contacted BadWolf to inquire from which databases the information came.

The hacker told the website that he still had access to the pbcgov.com database, where the information was allegedly stolen from, as well as other county servers that hadn't been leaked.

The site attempted to notify county officials and later ran a story on the incident.

Within minutes of posting the article, the blogger who contacted BadWolf reportedly received a phone call from the FBI but declined to provide further details beyond what was in the article.

On March 14, Dougan contacted the site and told them the FBI raided his house and handed him a warrant concerning fraud and related activity in connection with computers.

He told the publication that the raid was “an abuse of federal power in retaliation for my support of the people that were siding with me.”

Dougan was quoted as saying, “These people have let local law enforcement illegally abuse their authority with no checks and balances for the last six years in the form of illegally investigating me, illegally hacking my email and social media accounts, and such."
