Japan’s Shiheido cosmetics firm hit with breach

How many victims? 420,000 customers.

What type of information? A Japanese press agency reported that stolen data includes customers' names and addresses, as well as financial data – including credit card information – of as many as 56,000 customers.

What happened? The online cosmetics marketplace, run by subsidiary IPSA Co., said credit card data of customers who made online purchases between Dec. 14, 2011 and Nov. 4, 2016 is at risk of exposure.

Response: Shiseido is said to have quickly reported the incursion to Japanese authorities, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. As well, police are investigating. Operations of the online store were shuttered.
