FLEETCOR Technologies gift card systems breached

FLEETCOR Technologies, a $2.25 billion company specializing in fuel cards and workforce payment products and services, publicly disclosed this past Thursday that its gift card systems were accessed last month by an unauthorized party. A "significant number" of gift cards that are at least six months old, as well as PIN numbers, were accessed, the Peachtree Corners, Ga. company has warned.

"On April 26, 2018, Company personnel identified suspicious activity primarily on systems involving the Company's Stored Value Solutions gift card business," FLEETCOR states in both a special 8-K SEC filing and a press release detailing first-quarter financials, noting that the cards do not contain any personally identifiable information.

FLEETCOR also claims it has not observed evidence that the intruders accessed any other systems involving fleet cards and other payment products, or any payment networks used to deliver the company's payment solutions.

"The Company took immediate action to stop the activity and limit the improper use of accessed private label gift card information," states FLEETCOR, adding it responded to the breach by freezing certain gift card information, as well as engaging with computer forensics experts, federal law enforcement and affected merchants.

The company plans to provide an update on the incident in its upcoming quarterly report later this month.
